Scheme Investments

The Scheme's investment strategy is anchored on prudence, compliance, and member value, guided by the Retirement Benefits Authority (RBA) regulations, Investment Policy Statement (IPS) and other policies. Working with professional fund managers and custodians, the Secretariat ensures that members' savings are invested responsibly to deliver sustainable growth.

Portfolio Allocation (as at 30th June 2025)

Government Securities (Treasury Bonds & Bills): Kshs. 5.76 billion (85.6%) - the largest holding, providing stability and strong returns.
Listed Equities (Local & Regional): Kshs. 347.6 million (5.2%) - capturing long term growth opportunities.
Investment Property: Kshs. 442.5 million (6.6%) - generating rental income and capital appreciation.
Fixed & Call Deposits: Kshs. 154.3 million (2.3%) - ensuring liquidity and steady interest.
Corporate Bonds: Kshs. 11.9 million (0.2%) - diversifying fixed income exposure.
Other Assets (Unlisted Equities, Offshore, Cash): Less than 1% - providing balance and flexibility.
Total portfolio value: Kshs. 6.73 billion (2024: Kshs. 5.25 billion).

Fund Growth & Returns

The Scheme's fund value grew by 28% in the year, closing at Kshs. 6.76 billion (2024: Kshs. 5.27 billion).
Gross earnings rose by 140% to Kshs. 1.44 billion, delivering a gross return of 27% (2024: 13.4%).
Net earnings after tax stood at Kshs. 876 million, a 95% increase from 2024.
Trustees declared 16% interest on members' balances (2024: 9%), while maintaining a 2% reserve for sustainability.

Property Investments

The Scheme holds a portfolio of strategically located prime properties within Kisumu's Central Business District, for long term value creation, income generation, and prudent asset diversification. These properties are professionally managed and aligned with the Scheme's Investment Policy Statement and RBA investment guidelines.

MURBS Hostel

A high value residential asset located in Kisumu CBD. Currently earmarked for sale as part of the Board's strategic repositioning to optimize returns and rebalance the investment portfolio.

NBK Building Kisumu

A commercial property generating stable rental income, contributing to the Scheme's cash flow and long term capital appreciation.

MURBS Building

The Scheme's flagship property housing its Secretariat offices. This property anchors the Scheme's operational presence and reinforces its identity in the region.
